New Pastor Coming to Advent!

  • Jun 22, 2009

Advent Church has issued a call to Rev. Cindy Schwartz to serve as Pastor of Congregational Care and Spiritual Formation.  Cindy will begin her service at Advent in late July.

Cindy has written the following letter of self-introduction:

Dear Advent Church Family,
It is a privilege to have the opportunity to introduce myself  and my family to all of you! I’d like to claim Tennessee as home, because I love it so much, but I’m originally a Midwesterner. I’m the daughter of two educators. My husband Jonathan is from Mississippi. We are both Ole Miss grads. Jonathan and I have been married 22 years. We have three great daughters Myriah (23), Daria (17), and Anastasia (15).  I just completed my divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, but I have also completed a Diploma in Spiritual Direction from San Francisco Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from University of Mississippi. I practiced as a psychologist for 12 years. I know some of you through my service for 10 years as director of Living Waters House, a non-profit center serving church leaders in the Mid-South Presbytery and more recently part-time in Princeton, NJ. Chris Scruggs wrote the original grant for Living Waters House and Advent has supported the ministry. Prior to attending seminary, my family lived 12 years in Brownsville, where we were both active at First Presbyterian Church. I’ve served as an elder and Jonathan has served as a deacon. Both of us are committed to prayer, teaching the Bible, and service to the larger community. Jonathan loves mission and has participated in mission work in Mexico and in Mississippi for Katrina relief. Our family enjoys theater, hiking/walking, and crafts. I love to read, knit easy stuff, and make jewelry.
All of these things are part of who I am, but most important is that I have been found by Jesus Christ and he has made me his own. This transforms all that I am and all that I do. I pray that I will be able to meet all of you one day and hear your stories of how God has claimed you!
 Grace and peace,
Cindy
