A new mission outreach has been launched by Advent Church: Pencils for the Phillipines.  On Sunday, March 22nd, Georgia Smith shared the heart and vision God gave her for this mission as she spoke with both services at Advent's Cordova campus.  Over $7,000 was raised that day alone!  Praise God!

God Gives the Vision

On our last trip to the Philippines, God led us to a very poor village called Sitio Tabucol. The view from this mountain village was breath-taking, but the living conditions were appalling.

While our Advent men were installing a new water system, we spent many wonderful hours with the children of the village. It was during this time with them that we discovered over 50 children in this small village were not attending school because they could not pay the enrollment fee and buy the necessary supplies. These fees were about $20 a year.

When we returned home we decided to talk to our friends and see if we could raise some money for the upcoming school year. We were able to raise enough money to send all children who had parental approval to attend school.

Not only did they attend school this year for the first time, but because of the increase in students the school had to hire another teacher.

That is when "Pencils for the Philippines" was born.

We are thrilled to say that on March 11, 2009, we will be returning to Tabucal.

We are hoping to raise enough money to send 70 children to school this year.

If you would like to sponsor a child for $25, please contact Jackie Pennel (901-573-6246) or Georgia Smith (901-461-0600). This will allow us to start a scholarship fund to prepare them for their future.

This is a new mission outreach at Advent Church.

God has called two unlikely fund raisers to accomplish this task, so please keep this ministry in your prayers.

"....they shall be taught of God. " John 6:45

Reflection Verse

Be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.  Romans 12:2
