Art As Worship
Did you know that you can pray over scriptures using art?
Find out how as you join us with a new opportunity for Lent. Don’t be shy, we need you! There are lots of creative people at Advent. Perhaps you aren’t a gifted Bible teacher or a talented singer, but you love to craft or paint.
Here’s what you are invited to do: below you will find a set of scriptures that we will be preaching on during the Lenten season. Choose one or more of these scriptures to ponder and pray over. If, as you consider these Bible verses, you feel inspired to paint, draw, color, sculpt, quilt, take a photograph, write a poem or any other creative response – go for it! Then offer that piece of art to the church for the Lenten season.
Each week we will put up the pieces that go with that week’s sermon topic. The congregation will be allowed to look at the pictures before and after the service. We hope it will help all of us to appreciate the Bible verses in new and different ways!
Art and poetry from people of all ages, including children, are welcome. You don’t have to be a great artist. The goal is just to think of these pieces as offerings to God. He will, no doubt, be joyful about whatever you create with love.
If you have questions, please ask one of the pastors, David Shotsberger, or Georgia Smith. We are looking forward to seeing how the Spirit may inspire you as you pray and listen to His Word.
All pieces will be due to us by March 2. Get to work!
