The Apostle Paul gave his protégé Timothy a unique command for those “rich in this present world” from his congregation:

“to not be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain,  but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our    enjoyment.” (1 Timothy 6:17)

In Paul’s mind, wealth has the potential to transform our attitude, our outlook, and our hope. Finances are not just a heavy topic to address in our day, they were important to address in the initial days of the church of Jesus Christ.

How we handle and manage our finances is a discipleship opportunity. And, like all other areas of lives, we can assume that we don’t have a complete handle on the way we steward our wealth and possessions “out of the kit.” Perhaps we need to consider a re-examination of how we might manage our finances more faithfully as we seek to be eager disciples of Jesus Christ.

During our October sermon series, we’ll examine this passage from 1 Timothy a bit further because the command comes with a significant opportunity. Paul implores Timothy to encourage his church to be:

“rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” (1 Timothy 6:19)

What an incredible promise! I pray that you will join us in October as we all take steps further in our generosity development.

Cheers,                                                                  Pastor Joe

Are you new?

Welcome to Advent. We’re glad to have you here with us! Whether you’ve been to Advent many times or have never been to church before, you can anticipate an encouraging and enlightening experience. We’d like to get to know you and help you connect to the Advent family. On Sunday morning, come to the welcome center to receive a welcome gift. If you’d like to talk to someone directly, contact Leslie McKinney.

What about my children?

We believe they are the church right now! So we place an emphasis on ministry for and by children and teenagers by having them gather to connect with each other and Christ. We have plenty of fun and vetted, trusted, and enthusiastic staff and volunteers in various settings. Children and teenagers get together in authentic community to discuss real truths, to change their lives and the world bit by bit. You can find out more about Advent Children’s Ministry by contacting Kimberly Munafo and Advent’s Youth Ministry by contacting Greg Aydt.   |
