What I want to tell everyone is “Never, and I mean never, apologize for passion.” One of the things missing among most Americans, and unfortunately that includes ones within the church, is passion.
I once heard a speaker say, “In our country we don’t dance, we don’t sing… we don’t even sin with very much enthusiasm anymore.”
But, unfortunately when someone does have passion, especially in relation to Jesus, they are labeled as “nuts” or “freaks.”
I never want to be accused of not having passion to do great things for Christ! The role of the Pastor is not to keep the sheep happy or have “nice” church services. You know what I mean… services designed with everyone in mind except for Jesus. Think about it, when we truly believe the tomb is empty, it should show!
The church shouldn’t be content with status-quo. The church is the body of Christ that should be filled with men and women full of passion and vision, set on fire by God. People who feel they will explode unless they are moving the Gospel forward.
I have made many mistakes as a leader, and the list of the things that I regret doing is long. However, I do not ever regret the passion in which I have pursued all that God has called me to.
We need to refuse to be complacent about the church… God’s Church! All through scripture we see a passionate God with an incredible message; people who hear His voice and follow Him are set free; and for some reason, I just think that should excite us more than a young man carrying a pig skin across a painted white line.
The Church is God’s idea. The Church is the bride of Christ. Christ gave His life for the church. God is passionate about the church. Advent, we are God’s design!

God do many and mighty things as He continues to have His hand and favor
on Advent. As we move into the New Year our 2020 theme is unity. Jesus,
praying asked this of the Father:
through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me,
and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that
you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to
them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in
me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that
you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. John 17

going to take a unique and in-depth look at what it means to RESOLVE to be
who God has called us to be individually, as a family, in our community and
as a church. We will explore together, through God’s Word, how God is
leading us in 2020 and beyond.
His faithfulness and His consistency. This will be a great time of exploring the
character of God and how He relates to each of us. This will be a “can’t miss”
series.

grew up playing hockey so it was fun to watch Ezra gain enthusiasm for
something that I’ve enjoyed for over half of my life. Perhaps the neatest thing
was being able to enjoy the game in a new way. Not as a participant, or even as a
fan of the game, but as a dad and supporter of a new, young player.
I think that we have the same opportunity every December during the Christmas
season. We sing a lot of the same songs. Attend the same types of parties: work,
church, family, and friends. We hang the same Christmas lights and decorate
Christmas trees with the same ornaments. Ginger’s family even has the same
food for Christmas morning.
energy each Christmas. Events don’t seem to be rote repetitions of the previous
year. We’ve all changed a bit from Christmas to Christmas and so each year
seems so new. That’s what so powerful about this Christmas story. The New
Testament only has a bit of information about the arrival of Jesus. Some New
Testament authors add a bit more information about what Jesus’ arrival means
for us and for the whole world. Even though there is not a volume of information
about this world-changing events, there is an incredible depth to them for
forming the worshipping community year after year.
story or the predictable words of a well-known song. Let’s be ready to learn
something new about the life of Joseph or the significance of the Magi visit from
the East. The first Christmas was full of startling surprises. Let’s do our best to be
open to new ones this Christmas season.

The Apostle Paul gave his protégé Timothy a unique command for those “rich in this present world” from his congregation:
“to not be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” (1 Timothy 6:17)
In Paul’s mind, wealth has the potential to transform our attitude, our outlook, and our hope. Finances are not just a heavy topic to address in our day, they were important to address in the initial days of the church of Jesus Christ.
How we handle and manage our finances is a discipleship opportunity. And, like all other areas of lives, we can assume that we don’t have a complete handle on the way we steward our wealth and possessions “out of the kit.” Perhaps we need to consider a re-examination of how we might manage our finances more faithfully as we seek to be eager disciples of Jesus Christ.
During our October sermon series, we’ll examine this passage from 1 Timothy a bit further because the command comes with a significant opportunity. Paul implores Timothy to encourage his church to be:
“rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” (1 Timothy 6:19)
What an incredible promise! I pray that you will join us in October as we all take steps further in our generosity development.
Cheers, Pastor Joe
