AT-HOME FAMILY WORSHIP KIT
We want to honor families spending time together this Christmas.
This is a great opportunity for you to talk about your relationship with God together.
Gather whoever you consider family and a Bible for a few minutes:
Step 1
Read this “Call to Worship”
(all together or choose a person)
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Step 2
Have someone open with a prayer. You might use this prayer:
Heavenly Father, we sing songs of adoration to You because you are our all-mighty Creator, Redeemer, and Friend. However, we come before you with all of the imperfections of this fallen world. Please hear our prayers as we silently confess our sins.
(continue in silent prayer)
Thank You for the atoning blood of Your Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ. May Your Spirit dwell among us in faith, hope and love. Take our lives and use them for Your glory alone. Amen.
Step 3
Read scripture together (take turns):
Matthew 4
4 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”
7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”
11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
Step 4
Discuss:
- Jesus faced 3 different temptations. In your own words, what were they?
- What kind of temptations do you face or have you faced?
- How did Jesus respond to these temptations? Why do you think he responded this way?
Step 5
Watch this video from Pastor Caz:
Step 6
Discuss (part 2):
For Jesus, his answers showed his priorities: order your life by the word of God, trust God with every area of your life, worship God only.
What would it look like if you put these priorities in place in your life this year?
What is one priority you would like to live by in 2026?
Step 7
Pray together:
- Ask each person what they would like to pray for.
- Take turns praying out loud for each other. (i.e. everybody pray for the person on your right)
